Dornoch Academy Community Sports Hub, Business Case

The Parent Council had spent over ten years developing proposals for a sports facility, attached to the school, which would be available for community use outside school hours. Highland Council was not originally disposed to fund it, and asked us to overhaul the business case. In this project we:

•     worked with the Parent Council’s professional design team to establish the exact status and

      capital cost of the proposal

•     modelled, with the Parent Council’s, the expected usage pattern and the income stream

      which would result

•     demonstrated long term financial viability

•     delivered a business case in a commercial format acceptable to Highland Council, which also

defined how the project met Scottish Government, Sportscotland and Highland LEADER

      funding criteria

•     created a version of the Business Case to support direct funding applications

•     enabled the Parent Council to form a Charitable Company Limited by Guarantee, and apply for

      funding.

In the end, Highland Council decided that the case for the Sports Hub was so well justified that it decided to build the centre itself.
